Mineral oil
Next to an underground fuel tank, mineral oil contamination was found both in the soil and in the groundwater. The contamination has been remediated by excavation. The environmental supervision of the remediation was carried out by AGT. The necessary samples were collected andbased on these samples, the excavation of the contamination was adjusted.
Monitoring
The excavation was carried out until the concentration of the pollutants were reduced to the target concentration determined in the soil remediation project. The remediation works were summarized in an intermediary report and sent to the Public Waste Agency of Flanders (OVAM).
After the excavation, the groundwater is monitored for 2 years to be sure that the remediation was sufficient.

FRAC-IN: In-situ remediation
FRAC-IN was part of the European “Eurostars” research project in which a protocol was worked out for in-situ remediation of soil contamination presented in low-permeable soils. Together with the Belgian (ABO-Group) and the Czech (DEKONTA and NANO IRON) partners a remediation method was worked out.
